VISA REGIME
Currently the Republic of Moldova maintains a visa regime with
the majority of states in the world except CIS member-states and
Romania. The holders of UNO passports, of diplomatic passports who
are citizens of EU, Canada and USA as well as the holders of service
and diplomatic passports who are citizens of the Republic of Cyprus,
Peoples Chinese Republic, Islamic Republic of Iran, State of Israel
and Republic of Turkey can travel without visas in the Republic
of Moldova.
There are two ways to obtain entry visas:
(i) In the Republic of Moldova by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
including consular offices at the internal border crossings (Chisinau
Airport, Sculeni, Leuseni, Cahul) - for citizens who have residence
in the countries where the Republic of Moldova does not have consular
or diplomatic missions;
(ii) By diplomatic and consular missions of the Republic of Moldova
in the residence countries - for citizens that are residents in
those countries.
There are three types of visa: tourist; bussines and ordinary.
In order to receive a visa the following documents should be submitted:
1. Passport, valid for at least six months after the expiry date
of the required visa;
2. Visa application, completed and signed by the applicant.
3. A recent photo (3.5 x 4.5)
4. - For tourism visa - Tourist voucher or invitation issued by
a Tour Agency from the Republic of Moldova and authorized by the
General Consular Direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of
the Republic of Moldova;
- For Business visa- an invitation from the organisation or company,
written on headed paper and signed by the head of the organisation.
The invitation must be endorsed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
in Moldova.
- For ordinary visa- an invitation from a Moldovan citizen, written
on a special Interior Ministry form.
The citizens of EU member states, Canada, State of Israel and USA
can get an entry visa to the Republic of Moldova without submitting
an invitation or tourist voucher. When entering the Republic of
Moldova without invitation for a period up to 90 days, foreign citizens
and non-residents have to show the Immigration officer their passport
and customs declaration, confirming the financial support for their
length of stay. The minimum sum a foreign citizen requires is 390
lei for each day of stay (about $30). Foreign citizens intending
to visit the Republic of Moldova, must have the return ticket or
onward ticket to another country. Transit visas do not permit stays
in the Republic of Moldova longer than the indicated time limit.
Persons, transiting the Republic of Moldova without a residence
visa, can not stay on its territory longer than 72 hours.
Transit visas are issued for foreign citizens and non-residents
upon presentation of an entry visa to a third country.
All foreign visitors must register with the police within 3 days
of arrival.
Fees for the issuance of visa are: ( US $)

Tourist visas can be issued only for a single or double entry (for
one month), fee varying according to the issuing modality.
* For tourist groups of ten and more persons, visa fee is levied
with a 50% discount.

For consular services provided urgently or not within the working
hours, consular fee is levied with a 50 % increase.
Within Moldova, consular fee is levied in MDL, except the visa fee
levied by the consular offices at the border crossings where it
is charged in MDL, USA dollars or other hard currency.
Outside the Republic of Moldova’s boundaries, the consular
fee is levied in hard currency or in the currency of the residence
country, according to the official exchange rates of the country.
* Consular offices at the international border crossings operate
24 hours out of 24.
CUSTOMS REGULATIONS
The following is the list of goods that may be taken for personal
use by travelers when crossing the customs territory of Moldova,
which are not subject to any VAT, customs tax, and taxes levied
for customs processing:

* This list is established each year in the Budget legislation.
It is permitted to import and export from Moldova, tax free, personal
hygiene items, perfume, cosmetics and medicines for personal use
only.
Additional quantities of the above-mentioned items may be imported
or exported subject to payment of relevant tax..
Persons 16 years of age or older are obliged to declare verbally
or in writing to Customs authorities (by completing the Customs
Declaration) goods they are importing or exporting and to present
them for inspection.
When crossing Moldova’s borders travelers must declare all
currency and traveler’s cheques.
Non residents of Moldova have the right to bring into the country
and take out currency and traveler’s cheques in Moldovan Lei
to a value not exceeding 2500 Moldovan Lei. In respect of foreign
currency, non-residents may take out of the country sums up to those
they declared on the Customs Declaration on entering the country.
Additional sums may be taken out provided written permission has
been received from the National Bank of Moldova or other authorized
bank.
Residents of Moldova have the right to bring currency and traveler’s
cheques in or out of the country up to a maximum of 2500 Lei and
can take out foreign currency to a maximum of US$ 5000 or the equivalent
in other foreign currencies. To export additional sums written permission
is required from the National Bank of Moldova or other authorized
bank
In respect of the above-mentioned bank-permit conditions, both
residents and non-residents may take up to $50,000 (or the equivalent
in other currencies) in currency (banknotes) out of the country.
Amounts in excess of this must be exported by bank transfer.
* There are no restrictions on the amount of foreign currency brought
into Moldova.
